Target and Clout archery for all

HAA Long Metric 3

Herefordshire Archery Association held their first outdoor target competition of the year in Putley on Sunday 22nd April, based around a Long Metric III, but also including archers shooting LM I and LM V rounds. As soon as our Judge / Field Captain and HAA Chairman, Dave Bruce, had finished his introduction and signalled the start of the competition, a few spots of rain were felt, the coats went on and the brollies went up. Two minutes later and the light shower had stopped.

The weather continued in a similar vein for an hour before eventually brightening up and the day finishing dry and sunny.

As happens in competitions, a day of mixed fortunes for Ledbury Archers, with medals being awarded for the first time to Simon Shorrick and Jan Lee-Buxton, as well as to more experienced archers Chris Outtrim and Justin Twigg. Good effort and congratulations to all. Other Ledbury archers did not fare so well and we were reaching to the depths of their quivers for the excuse books! Lack of Practice, sun in my eyes, wind too strong, rain put me off, were some of the unfeasible reasons given for scores below those that were hoped for.

Still, an enjoyable start to the season for everyone and it was nice to meet and renew acquaintanceships with archers from some of the other local clubs. Please check our calendar for dates of upcoming local competitions.

Many thanks to those who helped out on the day and an especial ‘Thank-you’ to Graham and Anne for marking out the field and the usual superb arrangements in hosting the event which ensured everything went smoothly on Sunday.
