A very hot day in Wales set the scene for our latest club outing when fourteen folk travelled to The Roman Legionary Museum at Carleon and the remains of the Roman city of Isca at nearby Caerwent.

Our appointment at the Museum in Carleon was to see a collection of archery artifacts of national importance kept in the reserve collection .

We were met at the  museum by it’s curator, Mark Lewis, who provided us with not only close contact with the exhibits but a very enthusiastic insight into the use of archery within the Roman army. Not only culturally fascinating it also provided club members with an interesting glimpse into the development of the recurve bow.

Following the presentation was an inspection of the impressive amphitheatre and a visit to the city remains at Caerwent.’
